SeaMeet

How It Works

Three steps. Zero setup.

01

Skype call starts on your computer

Open Skype and join or start a call as you normally would. No plugins, no extensions, no integrations to configure.

02

SeaMeet detects it automatically — no setup needed

SeaMeet monitors your system audio in the background. The moment a call begins, it recognizes the audio stream and prepares to record.

03

Recording starts invisibly. No bot. No notification to others.

Because SeaMeet captures audio at the system level, there is no bot joining the call, no recording indicator for other participants, and no cloud upload during the call.

What You Get

More than just recording

Invisible recording

No one in the call knows you are recording. No bot joins, no popup appears, no recording badge shows up.

AI transcription

Automatic speech-to-text powered by on-device and cloud AI models. Supports 90+ languages with speaker identification.

AI summaries

Get action items, decisions, and key points extracted automatically after every call. Never write meeting notes again.

Flashback

Forgot to hit record? Flashback saves the last 2 minutes of audio retroactively. Capture what you missed.

Local-first

Recordings stay on your device by default. No cloud upload, no third-party access, no data leaving your machine.

Method 2 · SeaMeet browser recorder

How to record Skype in your browser (no signup)

Runs in Chrome, Edge, or Safari on desktop. Free for the first 15 minutes — Sync Pro removes the cap. No download, no Skype host permissions.

  1. 01

    Open web.skype.com and sign in

Skype for Web supports voice + video calls, group calls, and screen sharing — nothing missing vs. the desktop app for personal use.

  2. 02

Start or answer the Skype call in the browser

Grant microphone + camera permission if prompted.

  3. 03

Open app.seameet.ai in a second tab

Same browser as your Skype tab. Chrome, Edge, or Safari on desktop.

  4. 04

    Record the Skype tab

Pick "A browser tab" → Skype. Tick "Share tab audio" so the other person's voice is captured.

  5. 05

Live transcript + AI summary at the end

When the call ends, recording, transcript, and summary appear in your SeaMeet library.

Why SeaMeet

What SeaMeet does that Skype's native recording doesn't

  • No banner to the other person

Skype announces recording to every participant. SeaMeet is invisible to Skype — no banner, no notification, no chat message. Disclosure is on you.

  • Records to your local file, not the Skype chat

Skype's recording lives in the chat for 30 days before expiring. SeaMeet's copy is yours — download and archive.

  • Live transcript, not just video

Skype recording gives you a video file only. SeaMeet gives you the transcript as the call happens, searchable in real time.

  • AI summary + action items

What was decided, who agreed to what, when the follow-up is. SeaMeet writes this after every call — Skype doesn't.

Common questions

Recording Skype — questions & answers

Doesn't Skype already have recording built in? +
Yes — Skype added native recording in 2018. It works, but it announces the recording to every participant, saves inside the Skype chat (30-day expiry), and doesn't include a transcript or summary. SeaMeet fills those gaps: invisible to Skype, local file, transcript in 20+ languages, AI summary.
Can I record a Skype call to a landline (Skype Credit / Skype to Phone)? +
Yes — SeaMeet captures whatever your Skype tab is playing. If the outbound call to a phone number is audible in the Skype tab, SeaMeet records it. Get consent from the recipient — recording a phone call without disclosure is illegal in many jurisdictions.
What about Skype for Business (or Teams)? +
Skype for Business was renamed to Microsoft Teams and reached end-of-life in 2021. If you're on Teams, see our [Microsoft Teams guide](/en/how-to-record-a-teams-meeting/). Consumer Skype (the app covered here) is still active.
Can I record a Skype group call with 5+ people? +
Yes. Skype supports up to 100 participants; the SeaMeet browser recorder captures the full mixed audio. Speaker attribution in the transcript is best-effort based on voice pattern; rename speakers after the fact in the SeaMeet library.
Does it work with Skype on mobile? +
The SeaMeet browser recorder needs a desktop browser. On mobile, use the phone's built-in Screen Recording (iOS Control Center or Android quick tile) and upload the resulting video to SeaMeet for a transcript.
What if I miss the start of the call? +
The SeaMeet desktop app has a Flashback feature that retroactively saves the last 2 minutes of audio when you hit record. So if you realize mid-call that you should be recording, hit start and you keep the previous 2 minutes.
Is it legal to record a Skype call? +
Depends on jurisdiction. Two-party-consent states (California, Florida, all of the EU) require every participant to knowingly agree. One-party-consent jurisdictions (most US states, UK for personal use) require only one participant. Ask before recording — it's the safest baseline everywhere.

How SeaMeet Detects Skype

SeaMeet detects Skype via its desktop process and audio session. Both Skype-to-Skype and Skype-to-phone calls are detected.

Why SeaMeet for Skype?

Skype has built-in recording, but it notifies all participants. Cloud bots can't join Skype calls. SeaMeet records invisibly at the system level.
