SeaMeet

How It Works

Three steps. Zero setup.

01

OBS Studio call starts on your computer

Open OBS Studio and join or start a call as you normally would. No plugins, no extensions, no integrations to configure.

02

SeaMeet detects it automatically — no setup needed

SeaMeet monitors your system audio in the background. The moment a call begins, it recognizes the audio stream and prepares to record.

03

Recording starts invisibly. No bot. No notification to others.

Because SeaMeet captures audio at the system level, there is no bot joining the call, no recording indicator for other participants, and no cloud upload during the call.

What You Get

More than just recording

Invisible recording

No one in the call knows you are recording. No bot joins, no popup appears, no recording badge shows up.

AI transcription

Automatic speech-to-text powered by on-device and cloud AI models. Supports 90+ languages with speaker identification.

AI summaries

Get action items, decisions, and key points extracted automatically after every call. Never write meeting notes again.

Flashback

Forgot to hit record? Flashback saves the last 2 minutes of audio retroactively. Capture what you missed.

Local-first

Recordings stay on your device by default. No cloud upload, no third-party access, no data leaving your machine.

Three ways to do this

Three ways to record what OBS captures

Recommended

SeaMeet browser recorder (for meetings)

If OBS is set up for streaming and you want to also record a meeting — use SeaMeet in the browser as a lightweight parallel recorder. No re-configuring OBS.

Best for: People who use OBS for streaming but want an easier tool for meeting recording.

See how →

SeaMeet desktop app (auto-detects calls)

The desktop app captures meeting audio at the system level, whether OBS is running or not. No source-source-mixing setup required.

Best for: Users who don't want to learn OBS just to record a meeting.

OBS Studio's local recording

OBS is a general-purpose screen recorder — it captures anything you put in a scene. Powerful, free, cross-platform, but a real learning curve.

Best for: Streamers, content creators, and users who need multi-source scene composition.

Method 2 · SeaMeet browser recorder

How to record OBS Studio in your browser (no signup)

Runs in Chrome, Edge, or Safari on desktop. Free for the first 15 minutes — Sync Pro removes the cap. No download, no OBS Studio host permissions.

  1. 01

Open app.seameet.ai in a browser tab

You can run SeaMeet and OBS side-by-side. SeaMeet captures the meeting; OBS captures your stream.

  2. 02

Join your meeting in a second browser tab (or app)

Zoom Web, Meet, Teams Web, WhatsApp Web, Discord, etc.

  3. 03

Record the meeting tab in SeaMeet

Pick the meeting tab, tick "Share tab audio". SeaMeet transcribes as the meeting happens.

  4. 04

Recording, transcript, and AI summary land in your SeaMeet library

Independent of whatever OBS is doing. Nothing to reconfigure.

Why SeaMeet

Why not just use OBS?

  • No transcript, no summary

OBS records the video; you're on your own for a transcript. SeaMeet gives you a transcript in real time and an AI summary at the end.

  • macOS system audio requires setup

OBS on macOS needs BlackHole or Loopback to capture system audio (recording won't include the meeting audio otherwise). SeaMeet's installer handles this on Mac; the browser recorder skips the whole problem.

  • Multi-app coordination

OBS captures your screen; SeaMeet captures the meeting audio. They coexist — many streamers run both.

  • Focused on meetings, not streaming

OBS is powerful but complex. SeaMeet is meeting-focused: one click, transcript, done.

Common questions

Recording OBS Studio — questions & answers

Should I use OBS or SeaMeet for meeting recording? +
If your goal is a searchable transcript + summary — SeaMeet. If your goal is a high-quality video file for editing or streaming — OBS. They're not mutually exclusive; you can run both.
Can I run both OBS and SeaMeet at the same time? +
Yes. They're independent tools. Many streamers do exactly this — OBS captures the stream to Twitch/YouTube; SeaMeet captures the meeting in parallel for the transcript.
Why is OBS harder on Mac than Windows? +
macOS restricts system-audio access — OBS on Mac needs a virtual audio driver (BlackHole, Loopback) to capture what your Mac is playing. Windows has WASAPI, which OBS uses natively. This is why SeaMeet's Mac installer bundles the audio driver setup.
Can OBS record a Zoom or Meet call? +
Yes — OBS captures whatever's on your screen, including a Zoom/Meet window. But you'll need to set up audio sources correctly (see the mac + windows screen-recording guides). For most people SeaMeet's browser or desktop recorder is faster and simpler.
Is OBS Studio actually free? +
Yes — genuinely free, open source (GPLv2), no paid tier, no upsells. It's community-maintained. SeaMeet is free for the first 15 minutes; Sync Pro unlocks longer sessions.
What formats does OBS output? +
Configurable — mp4, mkv, mov, flv, and more. Default is mkv (safer against crashes) with the option to remux to mp4 after. SeaMeet stores recordings in its library with an option to export mp4.
How do I transcribe an OBS recording? +
Upload the mp4 to SeaMeet's "Import file" flow — you get a transcript and AI summary from the video. Or use open-source Whisper locally. See [how to transcribe a meeting for free](/en/how-to-transcribe-a-meeting-for-free/).

How SeaMeet Detects OBS Studio

SeaMeet detects OBS Studio via its process. When OBS starts capturing, SeaMeet can simultaneously record and transcribe the audio track.

Why SeaMeet for OBS Studio?

OBS is the best video recorder but has zero AI capabilities. SeaMeet adds transcription, summarization, and AI agent queries on top of what OBS captures.
